Sucker Punch
Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch is definitely a must-see for the upcoming year. It has gained an enormous amount of buzz and anticipation ever since it's appearance at Comic-Con. A young girl (Emily Browning) is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility. Snyder himself has described this film as Alice In Wonderland with machine guns. Aside from the amazing cast (Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Jamie Chung, Jon Hamm), the movie also includes dragons, gigantic samurais, nazi zombies, B-52 Bombers, and brothels. What's not to love?
Super 8
J.J. Abrams new film, Super 8, is surely to be one of his best films yet. In 1979, en route from Area 51 to Ohio, a train is to transport all materials from a lab. However, someone deliberately attempts and succeeds in derailing the train, causing a wreck. We are only left with the video of something trying to escape from one of the cars of the train. Elle Fanning and Amanda Michalka are two of the cast mates in this film. Area 51 + J.J. Abrams is bound to make for one hell of a good movie.
Hanna
The Lovely Bones actress, Saoirse Ronan, plays a 14 year old girl who was raised by her father to be a cold-hearted killing machine. She connects with a French family who looks to help ease her into a more conventional life. After seeing her in such a fragile role, I'm really looking forward to see how this Irish actress can pull off kicking ass. This action/thriller movie also stars Cate Blanchett and Eric Bana.
Scream 4
Ten years have passed, and Sidney Prescott, who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghostface Killer. I love this movie franchise so it's safe to say I'm a little biased towards it. Scream 4 brings back together Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette to, once again, bring down the masked serial killer. I really can't wait to see who gets knifed and apparently this is supposed to be the bloodiest one yet.
Beastly
A modern-day take on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love. I'm not quite sure what it is that's drawing me to this movie (it might be that it looks really cute), but it does sound decent enough to mention. Maybe the trailer will convince you like it did with me.
The Thing
At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson. While Dr. Halvorson keeps to his research, Kate partners with Sam Carter, a helicopter pilot, to pursue the alien life form. This is a prequel to the 1982 classic The Thing. It stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Eric Christian Olsen. Quite frankly, I'm a sucker for sci-fi films so... There hasn't been any other information let out other than the synopsis and who is starring the film. It is however scheduled to arrive in theaters later in the year.

An action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan star in this thriller. I wasn't totally convinced about how good this movie might be from the description, but it is starting to grow on me. To get even further into the plot it's not just one man's body that he can find himself in. Apparently, this government project allows someone's consciousness to be put into that of another human during their final 8 minutes of life. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this whole movie pans out.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2
I really don't think I have to give an explanation for this one. Seeing how Part 1 has been such a huge success, nothing short of amazing is expected for the second part of the final film of the franchise. The end begins as Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemorts final horcruxes, but when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle begins and life as they know it will never be the same again.
The Tree of Life
The story centers around a family with three boys in the 1950s. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence. I still don't know much about this movie, but the plot itself just sounds so intriguing and I feel like this movie will be an eye opener. This movie stars Brad Pitt and Sean Penn ( I don't think you can go wrong with either of them). It sounds so simple, but at the same time, seems like it will have so much depth to the story line. I'm getting an award winning feeling from this movie.
Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark
A remake of the 1973 movie, A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own. After seeing the trailer for this movie, I was scared sh-tless. I couldn't even go to sleep without having the fear of hearing something scamper across my floor trying to kill me. I think that's how you can tell if a scary movie will be good. So hopefully, this one turns out to be as good a movie as I'm hoping it will. The movie stars Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce. Watch the trailer at your own cost, or preferably in the daytime with people are around and the sun is out.
Honorable Mentions
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
It's an American remake of the Swedish film. I'm assuming it to have the same plot as the original, which sounds amazing. I would, however, still like to know a little bit more about the film, but I think it's getting a good amount of hype about it. The only thing I have a problem with is that it's an American remake. So it's kind of a toss in the air about how it's going to turn out. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara star.
I Am Number Four
John is an extraordinary teen, masking his true identity and passing as a typical high school student to elude a deadly enemy seeking to destroy him. Three like him have already been killed ... he is Number Four. It sounds okay. I'm not getting my hopes too high about it. For some reason I'm getting this "Race to Witch Mountain" vibe from this movie. I could be wrong. But it still sounds interesting. Definitely grabbed my attention. Alex Pettyfer and Josh Duhamel's look-a-like, Timothy Olyphant, star.
The Divide
Not much is known about this film yet, but it kind of looks post-apocalyptic which is the kind of movie I'm into. Nikita star Ashton Holmes in this movie along with Lauren German and Milo Ventimiglia. After watching the trailer, I feel like there's going to be a kind of survival of fittest thing going on. Watch and decide for yourself~
