Simon Cowell wants Katie Price for X Factor ? We shit you not.

[Images: Mr Paparazzi/Big Pictures Words: Candi Kays]

There are always tons different rumours floating around about who may or may not crop up on the next series of X Factor and the latest name to be thrown into the mix is none other than Katie Price and this isn?t just some silly rumour, it?s straight from the horses mouth.

During an interview with the Daily Star Sunday Simon Cowell said, ?Do I want (Katie) as a judge on the X Factor panel? Yeah, that could work. Why not??

Why not? We can think of a million reasons why not, mainly because she doesn?t know diddly-squat about music, but nevertheless Simon continues:

?I like her as a person. In fact I?d even go as far as to say she?s my woman of the decade.?

Has he been drinking?

Meanwhile an ITV insider added, ?Bosses know they need to pull something special out of the hat to maintain the shoe?s top-dog status. Many people, including Simon, think Katie could be the magic ingredient.

?Love her or hate her, everyone is fascinated by what she has to say. If she was on the show it is likely ratings would go through the roof and Simon knows this.?

Really? We?re not convinced.

Cory Gunz Documentary 'Son Of A Gun' To Premiere On MTV

Exec producer Nick Cannon teaming up with Young Money MC to chart his rise in six-part show debuting on April 28.

Nick Cannon and Cory Gunz announced on Monday (January 31) that they'll premiere their new docu-series, "Son of a Gun," this April on MTV.

The long-in-the-works production will follow the latest Lil Wayne protégé's rise to fame with cameras tracking the young Bronx rapper's career; Gunz is managed by his father, veteran Bronx MC Peter Gunz. "Son of a Gun," a six-part series, debuts on Thursday, April 28, at 11 p.m. ET/PT.

"Cory's story is inspiring, one that boldly paints the many trials and tribulations he's had to endure in pursuit of his dreams," executive producer Cannon said in a statement. "I'm grateful for the access that Cory and Peter allowed us to have in order to create a series that we feel will really resonate with MTV viewers."

Before the younger Gunz inked a deal with Weezy's Young Money, the upstart rapper was signed to iconic music industry veteran Tommy Mottola's Casablanca Records. When that union proved to be fruitless, Gunz joined Def Jam Records at Jay-Z's urging.

Back in 2009, Gunz partnered with Cannon and told Mixtape Daily that he and the Nickelodeon exec had plans in place to showcase the young mixtape circuit star's skills.

"Me and Nick got a couple things under wraps," Gunz explained. "We're trying to make a couple big things happen. We're trying to do things real elegant for '09, '10 and beyond. We [got] a couple projects in the works. Nick has been real instrumental behind the scenes on the project. And he's opened a couple of doors for me. Nick is my big brother now, for real. He's opening doors for me, giving me opportunities in and out of the studio. It's about to be ugly."

Are you looking forward to Cory's MTV docu-series? Tell us in the comments!

Lindsay Lohan Calls Nicki Minaj Track 'So Cool'

'Thanks for the shout,' starlet tweets about Minaj using her name in song.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lindsay Lohan doesn't always approve of people using her name as a pop culture reference, but it seems that the starlet doesn't mind a certain New York MC making reference to her in song. Lohan took to Twitter over the weekend to show some love to Nicki Minaj for her track "I Am the Best."

"See, you told me I would lose but I won/ I might cop a million Jimmy Choo's just for fun," Minaj raps on the track. " 'Cause bitches couldn't take what was in me/ Australia, Sydney, might run up in Disney/ Out in L.A. with Lindsay/ Got the eye of the tiger, the lion of Judah/ Now it's me in my time, it's just me in my prime."

"Love Nikki Minaj for the shout on her track 'im the best' xox so cool!" Lohan wrote. "I heart @nickiminaj - thanks for the shout! 'I'm the best' by Nicki Minaj. Check it."

Lohan has become quite the music critic via her Twitter account, giving fans some insight into what she's been listening to since leaving rehab earlier this month. "I love Adele's 'Rumor Has It' off her new record ... Such a good vibe to it ... makes me happy xoxo," she wrote. "I love this track. The XX remix is great too!" she added about the singer's "Rolling in Deep." The starlet also gave props to another song, tweeting, "MUST HAVE DOWNLOAD! Jessie J 'Do It Like a Dude.' Love her!"

SAG Awards Red-Carpet Fashion: Lea Michele, Kim Kardashian Stand Out

Natalie Portman goes subdued while 'Black Swan' co-star Mila Kunis follows jewel-tone trend.
By Aly Semigran

With the Academy Awards just a few weeks away, many celebrities attending the 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards — the last big hurrah before the Oscars — made sure to show off their finest duds on the red carpet.

Some of the famous females making their appearance on the 2011 SAG red carpet went with deep, plunging necklines, including Christina Hendricks ("Mad Men"), Eva Longoria ("Desperate Housewives") and Lea Michele ("Glee"). "Modern Family" star and Best Ensemble nominee Julie Bowen put a new spin on the look, sporting a deep-cut black pantsuit.

Jewel tones were also en vogue, as stars like "Modern Family's" Sofia Vergara and "Mad Men's" Cara Buono stunned in sapphire dresses, while winner Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife"), Mila Kunis ("Black Swan") and Tina Fey ("30 Rock") rocked striking reds. Elsewhere on the red carpet, Kim Kardashian picked a plum number with a cutout in the bodice.

With so many younger nominees attending the SAGs this year, age-appropriate frocks were evident on the likes of "Modern Family" girls Sarah Hyland and Ariel Winter. "True Grit" star Hailee Steinfeld looked lovely in a colorful striped number, as "Winter's Bone" actress Jennifer Lawrence turned out in a hot-pink dress.

Other notable subdued looks included Natalie Portman, who showed off her baby bump in an exquisite strapless white dress with a subtle sparkly neckline, and nominee Helena Bonham Carter, who looked positively conservative in a black-and-white number (paired with pearls, no less.)

As for the men on the SAG red carpet, standards (including Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Renner and Chris Colfer, among others) made way for stylish alternatives. Presenter LL Cool J (who, like Geoffrey Rush, donned a cap) and "Glee" nominee Cory Monteith looked sharp in all-black getups, while Taye Diggs and "The Social Network" star Armie Hammer went old-school by wearing bowties with their classic tuxedos.

Trust Kim Kardashian to go shopping in a pair of heels like this?

Sensible shoes on Kim Kardashian? How dare you even propose such a thing! No, no, Kim prefers footwear which makes her look about 5inches taller than she actually is, which is why she donned these killer heels for a shopping trip in Beverly Hills over the weekend.

Meanwhile in a recent interview Kim has strongly rebuked claims that she?s money obsessed:

?It's not all about money," she told Fabulous magazine. "We were never spoiled as kids so we all know the importance of working hard. And when I wake up every morning in my beautiful home that I bought by myself, I know it's worth it?

So what she?s saying is, its not about the money its just about the beautiful possessions she can buy herself through making loads of money? Two completely different things obviously.

Glad she cleared that one up for us then.

'Mechanic' Star Jason Statham Talks Allure Of Playing Tough Guys

'If I do go into something else, it will be because it is good,' the action hero tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

Jason Statham
Photo: MTV News

Those familiar with the work of Jason Statham know that he doesn't really do "fluffy" films or romantic comedies. He is a man of action and general butt-kicking/badass-ery: see "The Transporter," "The Bank Job," "Crank" and "The Expendables," to name a few.

Statham's new film, "The Mechanic," in which he plays a trained assassin who takes the son of his former mentor (Ben Foster) under his wing, is no different. There is a lot of action and a lot of ass-kicking, just the way his fans like it.

When MTV News caught up with Statham, we asked him if he felt at all typecast, and whether he'd take on a nice-guy role in a romantic comedy someday.

"You know, it's tough, because people will always keep saying to me, 'Do you only see yourself doing action movies?' and, I don't know," Statham said. "It's very difficult because one day I might be asked to do something that is of quality in a different genre, but the films that come from different genres aren't that great," he argued. "So I end up not doing them because once you make a mistake in that area, you can't go back. So, if I do go into something else, it will be because it is good."

But Foster told us his co-star doesn't just play a tough guy onscreen, but rather makes each performance unique by infusing them with "vulnerability."

"If you're a tough guy, and Jason is, the hardest part is showing vulnerability," Foster explained. "And it's working in 'The Bank Job' and in 'The Mechanic' here, and other films. He brings a lot of quiet heart to it. And it's difficult stuff because movie viewers aren't looking for that necessarily," he said. "But Jason is always being a humanity to [something] behind the bullets."

Are you fan of Jason Statham's action roles? Tell us in the comments!

Check out everything we've got on "The Mechanic."

Britney Spears Sets March 15 Release Date For New LP

Deluxe edition will feature three or four additional tracks.
By James Dinh

As the wait for the dance-heavy video for "Hold It Against Me" continues, details regarding Britney Spears' new album have surfaced. Based on a sales-solicitation sheet, which was confirmed as accurate by a label rep to MTV News, the pop superstar's still-untitled LP is set to drop March 15.

With the rocket success of the album's lead single, it's no surprise that the singer's seventh studio album will feature "multiple songs" from pop masterminds Max Martin and Dr. Luke. Additional production credits include Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith, Bloodshy & Avant and more. Fans can choose between a standard (soft pack/wallet packaging) version of the album and the deluxe (expanded soft pack with additional booklet pages), which will feature three or four additional tracks.

Spears has been hitting the dance studio hard, as the notice describes the forthcoming "Hold It Against Me" video as "a sexy, edgy dance piece directed by Jonas Åkerlund and showing Britney at peak form and ability." Earlier this week, MTV News took the liberty of mashing together some of the singer's most-iconic music-video dance scenes to give fans an idea of what Brit's new clip might look like.

In terms of Spears' press plans, the follow-up to 2008's Circus will be met with "a major TV event to launch the album" and a TV campaign, which will feature a variation of spots before the LP hits stores. The promotional rollout will extend to advertisements on everything from the Internet to the side of taxicabs. Other marketing schemes include a "LGBT/Lifestyle campaign," worldwide online fan contests and routine tweets from Brit.

Adam Leber, the singer's manager, took to Twitter to dish details on Brit's latest photo shoot and to remind them to keep their patience.

"Britney Spears did a photoshoot for her album package yesterday," he wrote. "Photos are nothing less than spectacular. We'll share some soon." He later tweeted: "So many good things coming down the pipeline. Britney fans should be excited. Album is incredible, video is fire, photoshoot is pure glam. Patience isn't just a great song by Guns N' Roses. All good things to those who wait."

Are you excited about Britney's new album? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Nicki Minaj Says Appearing On 'Saturday Night Live' Is 'Monumental'

Singer is musical guest on this weekend's show, hosted by 'Social Network' star Jesse Eisenberg.
By James Montgomery

Nicki Minaj
Photo: NBC / Broadway Video

Fresh off the debut of her "Moment 4 Life" video, Nicki Minaj is gearing up for another rather momentous event: her appearance as this weekend's musical guest on "Saturday Night Live."

And though it's most definitely happening, Nicki still can't believe it. And she won't, not until she's seen evidence to the contrary. This could prove problematic since, y'know, the show is live and all.

"Being a part of 'Saturday Night Live' feels absolutely incredible. I still don't even believe it's true, I'm not even going to believe it's really happening until — well, I'm going to DVR it, because I can't watch it, because I'll be on it," she told MTV News, laughing. "But until I see it back on DVR, I'm not even going to believe I was really on the show. This is epic, this is monumental, this is historic stuff."

For a girl who grew up in New York (just like this weekend's host, newly minted Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg), performing on "SNL" — a show that's nearly as iconic as the city itself — is a dream come true for Minaj.

"I mean, to be raised in New York, and to always hear about 'SNL,' " she said. "I never had the honor of getting a pinkie toe in the building, now [I'm] here and it feels incredible."

She spent the days leading up to the show filming teaser commercials with Eisenberg and "SNL" castmember Kenan Thompson, and Minaj is taking the same approach when it comes to talking about her performances: She's not revealing much.

But you can probably guess at least one of the songs she'll be doing. "Well, all I can say is that it's going to be a 'Moment 4 Life,' " Minaj smiled.

Do you hope Nicki will be in a skit on "SNL"? Let us know in the comments!

Drake Calls Nicki Minaj's 'Moment 4 Life' A 'Fantasy Video'

Clip premieres tonight at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by a live Q&A session with Nicki!
By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Drake has tons of acting experience, but he said he doesn't need to bust out his thespian skills for his onscreen team-up with Nicki Minaj.

The Toronto MC and former "Degrassi" star chopped it up with MTV News on the set of the video for the Young Money superstars' collabo "Moment 4 Life," which appears on Minaj's Pink Friday album. Drizzy was coy about just how the two will interact in the clip, but hinted that the pair will give fans an eye-popping spectacle.

"I mean, it's a fantasy video," Drake explained. "So you've got a very regal environment, and you've got Nicki doing what she does — big outfits, big everything — and it's a great video."

In some of the footage MTV News scored on the clip's Los Angeles set, Minaj grandly enters a sprawling mansion in an aqua gown with diaphanous draping. Looking over a balcony, Drake observes the rap diva as he nurses a martini. The Thank Me Later lyricist stayed mum about the clip's narrative, saying he wanted to preserve the surprise of the visual, which premieres Thursday (January 26) on MTV at 7:54 p.m. ET and will be followed by a live Q&A session with Minaj.

"The twist of it, or the concept of it, I don't wanna give it all away," Drake demurred.

As far as his performance in the video, Drake said that because of his close relationship with Minaj, being the hip-hop Barbie's leading man comes naturally.

"Yeah, I love that girl, man. I'm not gonna lie to you," Drizzy smiled. "I love her, so it's easy. It's not hard to play romantic."

Don't miss the premiere of Nicki Minaj's "Moment 4 Life" video, featuring Drake, Thursday at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV, followed by a live interview with the Young Money femcee that will continue on MTV.com. If you have questions for Minaj, tweet them with the hashtag #asknicki or upload a video question to Your.MTV.com.

Nicki Minaj Says 'Moment 4 Life' Fashion Inspired By 'Shakespeare Time'

Minaj tells MTV News she wanted to 'play dress-up' in latest video.
By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Nicki Minaj in her "Moment 4 Life" video
Photo: Young Money

Nicki Minaj has worked it as an anime-inspired siren ("Check It Out"), taken no prisoners as the leader of a no-nonsense army of vixens ("Massive Attack") and fought to the death as a love-struck martial artist ("Your Love") in her videos. However, for her latest visual, "Moment 4 Life," Minaj said she was inspired by the regal, romantic attire of Shakespeare's era.

In the video, Minaj strolls around a palatial mansion in a voluminous blue gown — where she's spotted by her "Moment" leading man and collaborator Drake — and vamps it up in a beaded corseted getup with a tulle train. Minaj also opens the video as her British alter ego Martha — who appears as a sage-yet-saucy fairy godmother in a frilly pink dress with a scepter and wings — and closes the video in a full-skirted bridal gown as she and Drake go in for a kiss.

Directly after the premiere of the Pink Friday cut's clip on MTV on Thursday (January 27), MTV News' Sway caught up with the megastar MC in Brooklyn for a live Q&A session, and Minaj broke down the theme of the fashion in "Moment" and explained that she took cues from iconic historical periods.

Check out the fashions from Nicki Minaj's "Moment 4 Life" video.

"I wanted to take a step away from, like, high fashion or, like, [a] hip-hop, sporty type of look and into just, like, real flowy and just to play dress-up," she said. "I was envisioning a Shakespeare time, and I figured, 'What would they wear?' I felt like the first outfit kinda looked like, almost like you're in Egypt somewhere back in the day, like a long time ago," she added of the bejeweled draped blue dress.

The visual also marked the onscreen debut of her theatrical alter ego Martha, who counsels a wide-eyed Minaj about her forthcoming fortune at the start of the clip. Minaj explained that it's Martha's signature milky-hued locks — which were teased up into a bouffant — that make the character.

"Of course, you know, Martha she has the wings, and I saw her with white hair. To me she just seemed like she would be an old little English lady, probably with a cane, and so we just needed to give her white hair," she said. "But she's super, like, posh."

What did you think of Nicki Minaj's fashion in "Moment 4 Life"? Let us know in the comments!

Leighton Meester Reminisces On Bloody Police Pullover

Nearing the end of another long week of work duties, Leighton Meester was spotted on the set of "Gossip Girl" in New York City on Thursday afternoon (January 27).

The Blair Waldorf beauty kept warm in a puffy black coat while sporting bright red boots to counter the wet and snowy Big Apple winter weather.

Aside from her CW efforts, Miss Meester is also promoting her upcoming movie "The Roommate" - which hits theaters on February 4th.

Talking about a run-in with police during the filming process in a recent interview with E!, Leighton told, "There's a final scene where we have a little catfight...well, not little.... So I'm a little battered. I was on my way home and I was on the freeway and I was going a little fast and I got pulled over."

"As I was getting pulled over, I was like 'I knew this was going to happen. I should have washed this off'," she continued. "I was just in a rush to get home. They thought it was real and they took me out of the car and did a little sobriety test to make sure I was okay. And they said I wasn't, which was funny, because I really wasn't. I was totally deranged from the movie."

The 26-year-old laughingly finished by telling, "Then they were like 'Well when does the movie come out? When can we see it? And...aren't you on that show Gossip Girl?'"

Enough with the Justin Bieber debate ? it?s officially completely acceptable to fancy Gino D'Acampo, especially after seeing this video of the chef butt-naked on TV this morning.

Gino decided to strip off for his cooking segment on This Morning after vowing to do so if the show won a gong at last night?s NTA?s. It did, so therefore he got his own gong out in return. When did daytime TV get this exciting, eh?

'American Idol' Judge Steven Tyler Gets Props From Daughters Liv, Mia

'He's saving the show because it was kind of boring before,' model Mia says of 'American Idol' newbie.

Though ratings for "American Idol" are down a bit from last year, one of the brightest spots in season 10 since the first two episodes premiered last week are all of the positive reviews for new judge Steven Tyler.

The Aerosmith singer has already proven to be a witty, funny and unpredictable presence on the show, serving up some instant-classic sound bites and DVR moments in the first two rounds of auditions. And though critics have been quick to jump on the initial ratings slide as proof that perhaps the show is hitting a rut, one of Tyler's daughters, plus-size model Mia, told Life & Style magazine she thinks her dad is the best thing to ever happen to "Idol."

"We're a very sarcastic family," Mia told the celebrity weekly. "He's the funniest man I know. He's saving the show because it was kind of boring before. There's only so many times you can watch Simon be mean to people."

Tyler, 62, has not been shy about batting his lashes at some of the luscious contestants, and Mia said that's because he's having a ball in his new gig. "He loves [being a judge]!" Mia said, explaining that despite his wild and crazy reputation on- and offstage, he's just a regular dad when he's at home.

"He's very protective and gets mad at us for not cleaning the cat litter box — typical dad stuff," she said. "It's so nice to see him up there ... He loves it!"

While appearing at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend, Mia's half-sister/actress Liv Tyler told "Access Hollywood" that she's a new convert to "Idol" and watches it all the time now, saying she gets "goose bumps" when she sees her dad on the show.

"I was so excited. I never really watched 'American Idol,' " she said. "I watched it with my girlfriends at home the other night and I had goose bumps for an hour and a half and laughed and loved it."

What do you think of Steven Tyler's "Idol" judging skills so far? Tell us in the comments!

Russell Brand gears up for Jonathan Ross live onstage reunion?

Daily Mail journalists have probably got their pens poised in anticipation ahead of Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross? live onstage reunion this weekend.

The pair will be appearing on TV together during the British Comedy Awards, which is Ross is presenting.

It?s the first time that the two have been reunited as a comedy duo since that Sachsgate malarkey, and seeing as the ceremony has now moved to Channel 4 (from ITV) producers of the show are definitely hoping for something ?controversial? to go down. An inside source blabbed:

?We're dying for some fireworks for the inaugural event - and what better way than by putting Wossy and Russell together live?

"They've never really addressed the Sachsgate row together so we're hoping they may make a few cheeky references to it on the show.

"We'll be standing by with the bleeper in case it gets too debauched, but the show is going out after the watershed so we're not going to turn it into Watch With Mother."

Let?s hope they?re just really dull and disappoint everyone (at the Daily Mail) so we don?t have to hear another bleeding things about Sachsgate ever again. Meanwhile Russell Brand isn?t even back in Blighty yet; he?s still in Hollywood where we spotted him last night?

Tiger Mom Defends Herself on 'Colbert Report'

"I'm not…trying to teach people how to parent," she says.

Amy Chua, the controversial author of Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother, appeared on The Colbert Report Tuesday to defend herself.

Chua says "it's a little surprising" she's come under fire for writing about restricting her daughters from play dates and forcing them to practice the piano and violin for hours on end (once not letting her daughter use the bathroom until after she'd mastered a song) and do math drills.

"The book is a memoir. It's supposed to be funny. It's a self parody," explains Chua. "It's about how I tried to raise my two daughters in the same my strict Chinese immigrant way my parents raised me. It is about some of the strengths… also about my mistakes and making fun of myself and how I ultimately had to pull back from that kind of [parenting]."

What is the biggest misconception about the book?

"That I'm trying to teach people how to parent, which I'm not," she says. "It's not a how-to book."

Lucky McKee's 'The Woman' outrages and offends with surgical skill at midnight

Note: I realize that there now have been not one but two posts about this film. That being said, this review is from someone who met the guy video and goes into a lot more depth about what went on at the screening. I honestly don't have any interest in seeing this film myself, but having seen some of the director's past work--I.E. May and The Woods, all female-centric horror films with strong women protagonists (and I'm not talking token slasher films that happen to have "the final girl"), I felt that the accusations lobbed against the director here of being a misogynist were jumping the gun. So I did some research and found this article.

PARK CITY - So, anyway, that happened.

I wish even a fifth of the press who fought to get those tickets for "Red State" Sunday night had fought just as hard to get into the midnight Library screening of Lucky McKee's "The Woman." Then again, the very nature of Lucky's work has somewhat marginalized him in the first place, so I guess it was fitting that people are ranting out there about having seen a "subversive and dark horror movie" tonight at this festival, while the truly piercing piece of horror filmmaking that screened was nearly ignored.

Lucky McKee is, without question, a radical feminist horror filmmaker. All you need to do is go back to his first feature "May" and then work your way forward. His sensitivity towards his actresses, and the perspective each of his films takes, is practically political. He returns to themes of power inequality and gender struggle, and he externalizes his subtext. He has been consistent in his interests, and as a result, he hasn't been making $50 million studio films. He doesn't seem terribly interested in remaking something or doing the easy jump-scare thing, and that can lead to some very difficult years for any horror filmmaker.

"The Woman," written by Jack Ketchum and McKee, is a fable about the smiling psychopath that our society is built to support, and the women he keeps under his thumb in his home. The entire film's tone is somewhat heightened, the color palette jacked up, and the entire thing playing out more like a remembered dream than a literal story. It is harrowing in a way that few horror films are for me these days, emotionally demanding. It is extreme, but more in terms of the psychology and the toll on the personalities of the characters than in terms of overt onscreen violence.

Well, that's not completely true. Things do eventually go totally mad-dog savage red, but McKee spends a long time turning up the tension before that, and in ways that violate taboo in an almost off-hand way. It's a film that feels dirty, upsetting. Because the film is ultimately about what happens when you render someone powerless, and what could happen if that power ever shifts back again, it is important for McKee to make his audience feel powerless. And he does. Completely. It's the sort of film that just sits in the pit of your stomach, slow-burning, and each time a line is crossed, you have to reassess just how far the film is willing to go.

I am not a fan of abuse in a film for the sake of it, and beyond that, I have written before at length about the numbing effect of the way most indie filmmakers use rape for shock or, in the worst cases, titillation. As a fan of exploitation cinema, I find myself having to excuse a whole lot of things in order to enjoy what I enjoy about the films, and there are times, especially at a festival like Fantastic Fest, where you realize just how unwelcoming much of the exploitation world can be for a female audience. It's just non-stop and for the most part, lazy. It is fair to say that the horror genre tends to victimize women far more than empower them, and that it's often done without thought.

"The Woman" is nothing if not carefully calculated. Every beat of the film, every gradual escalation of the story and the tension and the sickness is calibrated for maximum effect. There are some really blunt-force-trauma sexual politics at play in the film, which is evident from the set-up itself. Chris Cleek is a soft-featured family man, and Sean Bridgers does an amazing job in the role. He is as nauseating a character as I've seen in a film in quite a while, and it's the little touches that really make the performance special. He is hunting one afternoon in the woods near his house when he sees a feral, animal-like woman, filthy and wounded, washing herself in the creek. One look at her naked torso, and he never looks back. A plan occurs to him, fully formed, and he starts by going home and modifying the cellar of his barn. He tells his family he's going to bring home a surprise, and right away, there's something about this family that just feels fundamentally broken. His wife Belle (Angela Bettis) and his daughter Peggy (Lauren Ashley Carter) are both like ghosts, barely there, cowed by something, while his son Brian (Zach Rand) is blank-faced, filled with cruelty, barely able to pretend to be human. If that's where they start, then imagine where they end up after Chris reveals his surprise: he has captured the feral Woman (the remarkable Pollyanna McIntosh), and he has her bound in the cellar, where they are going to, as a family, "fix her."

From that basic scenario, McKee and Ketchum extract every single bit of unease and discomfort, and in doing so, he pushes the audience to a place where they have no choice but to address the outrageous disparity in power between the men in the movie and the women. Even a character as initially strong as Ms. Raton, Peggy's teacher, is stripped of her power immediately upon confronting Chris, who gradually turns up the crazy over the course of the film. It's like The Woman is a battery, sending out this field that makes all of the people in the family drop their thin veneer of civilization, and the more time they spend around her, the more they drop into a state of blatant savagery.

It's elegantly made, and while I found the movie intellectually engaging, what surprised me was the visceral reaction I had. Not only did I find myself adrenalized by the last half hour of the film, it was to such an extent that I was literally shaking by the time McKee brings the entire thing to a conclusion. I had a base level animal reaction to what I was watching that reached past both text and subtext to provoke that fight-or-flight part of the brain, and the catharsis offered by the ending is nothing as simple as a typical revenge movie.

And I'm not the only one it pushed, evidently.

That video has been making the rounds since mid-day yesterday, and I certainly helped with that. I've sent the link out to several people, and I've seen it retweeted over and overall, as well as embedded in articles about "the incident" at the screening. The thing is, that video starts after Captain Indignant has already been removed from the theater by security. If that's all the story you're running, that's not the story. I know, because I was unfortunately part of it.

Let me set the scene. The film has caused a steady stream of walk-outs while it's running, which shouldn't surprise anyone. If a film pushes me to the place where I'm having involuntary physical reactions, and I'm as jaded to the horror genre as I am, then I would imagine it must have been overwhelming for people who aren't as comfortable with the extreme. The last walkout, probably twenty minutes before the end of the movie, was a young woman who was in such a panic to get out of the theater that she slipped and smashed her head. They were momentarily afraid they were going to have to give her CPR because of how hard she went down. Finally, the film ended, and the credits began to roll, and before anyone could even start to move toward the stage for the Q&A, Captain Indignant stood up directly in front of me.

And he began to scream.

"THIS MOVIE DEGRADES WOMEN! THIS MOVIE DEGRADES MEN! YOU ARE SICK! THIS IS NOT ART! YOU ARE SICK! THIS IS A DISGUSTING MOVIE! SUNDANCE SHOULD BE ASHAMED! HOW DARE YOU SHOW THIS!"

I've tried playing back the incident and breaking down how long actually elapsed. I can't, though. It's one of those moments that is distorted by that adrenaline that was already coursing through me, already so strong that I could feel the vein in the side of my neck pulsing, and having this guy stand above me, showering me in his spit of self-righteousness, and it felt like ten minutes went by of no one reacting to this lambasting of the filmmakers.

"WHO WOULD MAKE THIS? WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER SHOW THIS? I WOULD LIKE EVERY PERSON IN THIS AUDIENCE TO GET UP AND COME WITH ME SO WE DON'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS SICK MIND!"

I heard someone suddenly yell back, even louder than him, "WHY DON'T YOU SIT DOWN AND SHUT THE F**K UP AND LET THE FILMMAKER HAVE HIS SAY?"

And when the guy looked down at me, shocked, I realized it was me who yelled it.

"ARE YOU SAYING YOU LIKED THAT MOVIE?"

"Yeah. Yeah, I did."

From a few rows behind me, I heard someone loudly and clearly say, "Then you're sick, too." That seemed to be all the fuel Captain Indignant needed, and he sneered at me.

"THEN YOU HAVE NO MORAL COMPASS, AND I FEAR FOR ANYONE IN YOUR LIFE."

Like I said… I get what was happening to him. The movie hit him so deeply, in such a private place, that he was lashing out to try and maintain some sense of balance. He wasn't intentionally disrupting things. He was out of control in every sense of the phrase.

But when he said that, when he went from freaking out about the movie to making a judgment call about me being a hazard to my family, he pushed that same defensive spot in me, and suddenly I was standing, face to face with him, and anyone who has ever heard me raise my voice knows that there are few people louder than me, especially when you bring my family into things.

I can't tell you exactly what we bellowed at each other. I can tell you that the moment I stood, he realized his mistake and began a sort of withdrawal. I know I told him that Sundance invited McKee as a guest, and that the film had obviously worked because his reaction was expressing just how well it worked on him, and that there was a way to express his disgust that didn't involve hijacking someone else's premiere. And again… I can't reliably tell you how much time passed.

I just know that as I was standing there, determined not to listen to any more of his rancor, the thing that really bothered me was knowing that in a field like horror, you can get ahead if you're willing to make the "typical" horror film, and if you don't really care about the sexual politics of the genre. Lucky McKee is the last guy anyone who really grasps text and subtext can accuse of being anti-woman. He has probably suffered in his professional life precisely because he does view things through a feminist prism, and to accuse him of degrading women without even attempting to understand the context… that's just wrong.

Finally, I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I turned to realize there were two security guards in the theater. One of them smiled at me and said, "Thanks. We'll take care of him now."

I sat back down, even shakier than when I stood, and watched as Captain Indignant backed away from security. Keep in mind, by this point, this guy's been on his feet ranting at the top of his voice for a good seven or eight minutes, and yet his first response was to drop back into his seat, pull out his cell phone, and pretend to be checking messages. The security guards leaned in. "Sir?" Nothing. He was pretending they weren't there. I'm surprised he didn't stick his fingers in his ears and go "NAH NAH NAH I AM NOT LISTENING TO YOU." But his act didn't help. Security physically lifted him out of the chair and escorted him out into the hallway, which is where that YouTube video begins.

The most touching part of the entire incident was when Lucky then walked up to the front of the theater. All the women from the film then jumped up and got between Lucky and the crowd and raised their fists, ready to fight for him. I think that says it all.

I'd like to apologize to Lucky and to his amazing cast and crew for being part of that, but I have no apology to offer to Captain Indignant. If he really wanted to debate the film's content in the Q&A, he could have. He didn't want a debate, though. He was responding with his lizard brain, all instinctive bluster and outrage, and he was accusing these people of practically being criminals because of this piece of art of theirs. That's not the spirit of Sundance or any festival. When you buy a ticket here, you never know what you're going to get, but there's certainly a good chance you'll be provoked, pushed out of your comfort zone. And I know we live in an age where horror is, nine times out of ten, safe and pedestrian and predictable and anything but scary or upsetting.

McKee is the real deal, though. He means to wound. And "The Woman" is what happens when an artist gets good enough at their craft to land every punch hard enough to leave scars.

I hope you have a chance to judge for yourself soon. In the meantime, any potential distributor should just release that YouTube clip as the teaser trailer and slap the title and a date at the end of it after the guy talks about how the film should be seized and burned.

Sounds like an endorsement to me.

Kendra Wilkinson Talks Transition

She came to fame as one of Hugh Hefner?s girlfriends, but Kendra Wilkinson is more interested in playing with her son Hank than being a Playmate.

The ?Kendra? starlet told FOX Pop Tarts that her transition from wild party girl to domestic queen had everything to do with her husband Hank Baskett and his take on faith.

?Everything happened in the exact perfect timing I wanted. Living in the mansion was in my late teens and early 20?s and that was where my life was then and I thank Hef. He?s the one that opened the door for me and the life I have now. But now I?m 25, I have a husband and child and I needed that. I was over the party thing, that just gets so old, and I needed that (faith.) This is my life now, this is what makes me happy. Waking up to my partner everyday is so amazing, and of course, our son. But Hank and I know how to be husband and wife, not just mommy and daddy.?

Kendra added, ?Of course our number one priority is to be parents, but we?ve got to that point where we are not going to be ashamed of stepping outside and having a couple of drinks and be wife and husband. That?s our thing now ? we are not going to be ashamed anymore.?

Cam'ron Says Vado Will Decline XXL Freshmen Cover

Like Drake and Nicki Minaj in 2010, he says offer came a year too late.
By Jayson Rodriguez

It's almost that time of the year when hip-hop magazine XXL crowns the newest crop of lauded MCs for its annual "Freshmen" cover.

One on-the-rise upstart who won't be gracing the front of the magazine, however, is Vado.

Cam'ron said his protégé is passing on the opportunity.

"To be honest, he's not gonna be on there," Cam told DJ Drama on satellite radio station Shade 45. "It ain't definite yet. But I spoke to [XXL's editor in chief] ... She called me about doing it. They didn't put him on last year, they wanted him on this year ... so I told the lady at XXL I'd get back to her.

"If Vado does do the cover for XXL, I want him to be a main focus. I'm not trying to be an a--hole, like 'it's us or nothing,' [but] my man put a lot of work in last year. I'm not saying that the other people that's coming up shouldn't be on the cover either, I'm just saying give him a little focus on the cover. She said she didn't know if she could, and I understand that."

XXL editor Vanessa Satten didn't respond to a request for comment.

The Slime Flu MC won't join the list of past XXL frosh picks, including Asher Roth, Wiz Khalifa and B.o.B. Lil Wayne protégés Drake and Nicki Minaj declined the 10 Freshmen for 2010 issue, also saying the offer came a year too late.

According to Cam'ron, the Harlem MC will instead appear on the cover of rival rap mag The Source soon along with Cam and Jim Jones.

The rapper said The Source cover story was negotiated by Alan Grunblatt, president of E1 Music, the recording home of Cam and Vado's upcoming joint effort Gunz N' Butta and Jones' Capo.

A representative for The Source would not confirm the Cam'ron, Vado and Jim Jones cover as of press time.

Do you think XXL should have recognized Vado last year? Sound off in the comments below!

The Fantastic Four say goodbye to 1 member.... :(

Johnny Storm: The Human Torch

NEW YORK — Fifty years after cosmic rays transformed him into a man ablaze, Marvel Entertainment has extinguished the Human Torch's flame and his life, too, as the pop culture purveyor of super heroes and villains embarks on an ambitious story line that ends the Fantastic Four.

In the newest issue of one of the company's longest-running comic books, Johnny Storm's life is taken amid a massive battle that writer Jonathan Hickman has been scripting for a year-and-half.

While Marvel has made no secret that a member of the quartet, which was introduced in August 1961, would die, exactly who among the group would fall has been a closely held secret, until the release Tuesday of issue No. 587.

It's the Human Torch, leaving teammates Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman and the Thing to pick up the pieces and move forward.

Hickman, along with his editor, Tom Brevoort, have been unsurprisingly mum on what the future may hold for the characters, but one thing is certain, the end is nigh for the Fantastic Four next month.

Brevoort, senior vice president for publishing at Marvel told The Associated Press that "588 is the final issue of the Fantastic Four. Beyond that, we're not ready to say exactly what we're doing. There won't be an issue 589."

All he would say about the future was that the various subplots and threads that Hickman has written "will converge in a new thing that will be exciting and different and yet, very familiar and very much the same."

Readers have weighed in online, on Twitter and in comic shops about the buildup to the new issue, debating about who should die and who should live.

"Our readers get heavily involved in the lives of these characters. They fight alongside them, they share their triumphs and pitfalls," he said. "They live with them and they grasp them very tightly to their breast. They take them on in a very one to one, very personal sort of way."

But is death really the end and, more so, will it be permanent? After all, death has previously visited the Fantastic Four, which was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman, supposedly died, but that was just a ruse. Similarly, her husband, Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, was thought dead after being caught in a blast with his archenemy, Dr. Doom. Instead of death, however, Richards and his nemesis were snatched away to another dimension.

Indeed, death is not uncommon in comic books. DC killed Superman in the 1990s, only to bring him back. At Marvel, Captain America was assassinated on the steps of a court house and returned, while Marvel's mutant band of X-Men know death so well that the Grim Reaper is on speed dial - Thunderbird, Phoenix, Nightcrawler and others have been felled.

Roy Thomas, who was a writer and assistant editor at Marvel in the 1960s and, later, its editor-in-chief from 1972-1974, said that since comics try to mirror real life, death is always a specter.

"The thing that is the most unrealistic is that so few people (have) died, good, bad or otherwise," he said. "If they did, they always managed to come back."

Thomas said he hated to see a member of the Fantastic Four die, but the Human Torch may not be gone forever.

"Whether it's Superman, the Thing or Bucky, if someone wants to bring them back to life later, you can't bury them deep enough or tear them into enough pieces" to keep that from happening. "Death is not a permanent condition in the comic book universe.

Joe Quesada, Marvel's chief creative officer, recognized that death, while potent, is not necessarily lasting and that the death of a character in comics has turned out "to be very cliche" in plot developments.

"Whether the human torch comes back or not is really a question that will be answered in time," he said.

"While I will never discount that a character can come back from the dead because it is one of the staples of comic book story telling . I'm not going to tell you if he will, or when he will and if he does, how he will, but I can assure you that it's going to be very, very interesting and not what anyone expects."
