James Franco: Barack Obama gave me advice
It came as the 127 Hours star copped some serious flak for leaving Hollywood to become a creative writing student two years ago.
Franco said: ?When I first went back to university, nobody understood. People would say, ?Well, do you want to be a movie star or a student?? And, actually, you know what? That?s a little advice that Barack Obama gave me.?
Franco revealed he once asked the president about handling criticism, adding: ?He said, ?Humour, basically?. And that?s how you get through these situations.?
The Oscars host also revealed he never had much luck with the ladies in his younger days.
The 32-year-old told GQ Style magazine: ?Sure, girls told me I was cute or whatever but I was so shy I could never really make anything happen or cash in.?
Franco was seen in Hollywood with English supermodel Agyness Deyn last week but has been linked to little-known actress Ahna O?Reilly for four years.
His sexuality has come under the spotlight after a string of gay roles, including one opposite Sean Penn in Milk.
In the past, Franco has said: ?Part of what I?m interested in is how these people who were living anti-normative lifestyles contended with opposition. Or, you know what? Maybe I?m just gay.?
