BEWARE OF SPOILERS AHEAD !
CONFIRMED AND NEW SPECULATIONS FROM THE CON -
- Arthur is still clueless about Merlin being magical.
- Class roles and power plays political and otherwise seems to be a big theme in season four.
- Gwen's role will change throughout this season.
- Merlin will remain a servant.
- Lancelot is in more episodes this year, though possibly more towards the back end of the season.
- Merlin's magic will not be revealed this season, but from those who were there, the way the writers and actors worded their answer to this made many speculate thet THIS time at least someone will be let in on the big secret. The money is highly on Morgana or Morgause, with the long shot being Gwen and Arthur last.
- Angel said she thinks that Gwen loves Arthur more, though Lancelot might be a better fit.
- Added to that, its curious that she has said she is in love with Arthur more ' at this moment ' or similar, which has lead many to believe that the whole Lancelot / Gwen / Arthur triangle is far from over as some fans had hoped / dreaded it would be. On the plus side at least this means more of the actor who plays Lancelot in season four hopefully ;)
- Season 4 is set a YEAR after season 3.
- Apparently according to someone there, Arthur's uncle is Iragine's brother, not Uther's.
- Morgause is back. with some much needed back story to be included but no news as yet if the knock to the head she received at the end of season three has affected her in any way.
- Colin has said that Merlin will go to some dark places this season, so his hope before of Merlin going ' dark ' and showing a possibly meaner side to himself instead of the usual ' lovable idiot ' Merlin is going to be show. A lot of fans of " Dark Merlin " in the fandom should be happy about that.
- Colin / Merlin's hair is short again, but from the looks of it much longer than it was in season three.
- The knights will play a much larger part but it will not be all smooth sailing because a lot of the peasants do not like the idea of the new breed of knights being of common background. This of coarse will also tie in to Gwen being not of noble birth yet is with Arthur and possibly to be Queen.

- NOT impressed about another one year jump, and this time not only as a Merlin / Arthur fan but also as a small liking of the whole Gwen / Arthur dynamic. Does this mean we again do not see any fallout from the event that happened that year before ? WHat do people think of the kiss in the courtyard ? What does Lancelot think of this a year on ?
- Arthur must be really slow because really writers ?! ANOTHER YEAR on and he still does not know about who is helping him and what Merlin has been going all this time ?! No wonder the lad feels so bloody underappreciated and is going to go a tad emo this season and possibly lash out. Merlin quite frankly needs an emotional output and hopefully it will be magically beating the crap out of Morgause or Morgana.
- Merlin again stuck in a one note role while others progress. I mean, GWEN of all people gets to move up in status yet Merlin is still stuck as as a servant in season four ?! If he cannot be in a different role in Camelot then writers PLEASE make his role as Emrys with the Druids more prominent as a result. Give Merlin a place where he can be appreciated and his actions not being kept secret or taken for granted.
- Personally I hope the writers do not use the knights as an excuse to save money aka writer a lot of action scenes and not have more magical scenes where Merlin can actually be shown to be the Emrys of legend, since its been reported they got enough of a budget boost to make 13 episodes instead of 10, it would be good to put some of that money back inot showing more magic in a show based around the greatest magician of all time dont you think ?
- Maybe not a popular opinion, but I think its high time for Morgause to die in season four, thus paving the way for Mordred and Morgana to become the unholy power combination that will finally give Merlin a run for his money. Morgause has had a good run on a show that likes to kill off its bad guys / girls after one episode but I think that this season she needs to be gone in order to make Morgana become more prominent and also to be able to have to become self reliant and force her to learn to control her emotions and become better at controlling her magic. As long as Morgause is there she is becoming a hindering force to that, much like Gaius is of late to Merlin in his constant speeches of Merlin having to keep his magic a secret. Added to that, the writers I felt really botched up Morgause as much as they have Morgana in season three like they did Morgs in season two. She was such an ambiguous character and such a refreshing change of a villain to what we had before, but in season three she became the typical bloodthirsty villain who we just wanted to see die asap.
