We don?t generally show human emotion, but last night our ice cold heart almost (we did say almost) melted when Matt Cardle sang The First Time (Ever I Saw Your Face) on X Factor.
Everyone ? including us ? thought it was beautiful, and perhaps we appreciate the performance even more now after hearing the sad story behind why he chose that song. Matt revealed:
'My mum's best mate was killed when I was 11 and she had four kids. My mum took on those kids and they absolutely made our family bigger and better.
'The oldest one Julian, his girlfriend was under similar circumstances and they got married a couple of years ago and I sang that as Kate came into the church. The whole day was one of the most emotional days of my life.'
And it seems as though the personal song choice has paid off for Matt; after a shaky performance last week the singer?s chances of winning X Factor dropped dramatically but after last night?s show he?s now favourite to win again?
